I've got a phone in my shirt!

Bobby and Ruby were talking to Grandma on the phone and having a great time...except that Ruby kept hanging up on Grandma every couple minutes. The girl's just not happy unless she has her hands on the phone. So Daddy came up with a solution:

Ruby couldn't quite figure out what was going on. And somehow she still managed to hang up on Grandma. But Mommy and Daddy sure did get a good laugh.

A New View

One morning it was raining and so I opened our front door so Ruby could take a look. She's always been curious about the front door; anytime we go to open it she crawls over as fast as she can to examine what's going on. But we've never really let her spend any time there.

So I opened the door and just let her look around. She loved it. She stood there for a good ten minutes watching the cars, the rain, the people...the garbage truck. Wow, who knew a garbage truck could be so exciting? Especially when the garbage man waved to her. And then she got to watch Daddy drive away to school. I think this may have to be a part of our daily routine.

Nice Weather

We had a couple days of gorgeous weather and it was so refreshing! I decided Ruby and I needed to go for a walk to the park. We haven't been out on a walk for four or five months now and Ruby loved it! I put her in the stroller and we started down the street and she kicked her legs and waved her arms and squealed with delight. I think she was absolutely thrilled to be out of the house and going for an adventure.

We walked down to the park and had fun swinging and watching all the little kids that were out enjoying the sunshine with us. Then we packed up and went home and she took a long nap. I can't wait until the spring is here and Ruby can enjoy being outside again. I miss our morning walks and I know Ruby misses seeing things other than the house and Walmart. Boring.

A New Hairdo

Ruby has started ripping out just about any bow or clippie I put in her hair. She sees me coming with it and the instant my hands leave her head, she reaches up and starts yanking until it comes out. Then she twiddles the clippie around in her hands for a minute and then tries to put it back in herself. So I sit and watch and when she seems like she wants it back in her hair, I put it back in, hoping that she'll leave it alone. No luck. She immediately reaches back up and pulls her bow out.

So I've been trying to do her hair so that she can't ruin it (and lose her clippie...she's already lost one and nearly lost another, but I managed to save it before she dumped it out of her car seat).

I bought some little colored elastics and have been experimenting doing her hair with those. She tries to grab them but finds that there's really nothing big or exciting in her hair and so she leaves them alone. Success!

Teething

That better be what Ruby's up to these days, or I just might go crazy. Our girl is so easy-going and good-natured that when she gets cranky and fussy we just don't know what to do because we're not used to it. The last couple days Ruby has been a total diva. She needs to be coddled, loved on and has to have her way or she lets us know just what she thinks about us. I can't do anything on the computer without her coming over and having a royal fit that I won't let her bash the keys. Can I just tell you how grateful I am that she is usually so happy and content? She has spoiled us so much with her fun personality and how easy she is to take care of. Seeing her be just a little bit cranky really helps me appreciate her all the more.

And can you believe she's going to be a year old in less than a month? Had to get that in there, because it absolutely dumbfounds me.

Happy Valentine's Day

To all our friends and family, we hope you have a wonderful day full of kisses, smiles and lots of love. We love you so much and are so grateful for all your support and friendship.

Kefir

One of the fun things about Ruby is watching her try new foods. She absolutely loves food and gets really excited about eating. We're talking arm waving, "mmmm"s and opening her mouth so wide her jaw just about unhinges. And this goes on the whole meal. You'd think we were starving this poor girl, but she eats a lot. Though she doesn't look like she does. She's tiny. But this girl can really put food away. She just about eat us under the table.

I bought some kefir from the store this week. It's a european yogurt drink that Bobby loves, so I got some for him to enjoy. And then Ruby found out that she loves it, and so it's for her to enjoy too. Here are her first sips of kefir.

Into Everything

Ruby loves getting into whatever she can find. And she adores taking everything off the first two shelves in her room. Wipes, laundry, books, she'll grab everything. Luckily she doesn't do it too much, usually she just goes for the wipes and I'll follow a trail of them until I find the package.

In a Corner

Our house is small. Tiny. One of the things I'm really looking forward to as we move and get on with real life is living in a larger home. I want more room for Ruby to move around and I really want a bigger kitchen. I need a bigger kitchen. One that we can actually fit a table in that can seat four people. I can't wait.

Our little house doesn't bother Ruby in the slightest. She contentedly crawls from the living room to her room and back again. But her favorite places to chill are the little corners in the living room:

The first is the space between her toy basket and the console. And her music table is usually floating around here too.

The second is by the front door. We rarely use it, so it's a pretty tight space with the console and a chair making a nook perfect for such a little girl. She'll contentedly sit there for five or ten minutes before coming out, a big smile on her face, to see what she missed.

Boppy Lounging

After I'm done nursing Ruby, I usually toss the boppy on the floor and let her crawl on it and play with it. Lately she's started draping herself over it and just chillin' for a minute or two before she goes on her way. Although sometimes she buries her face in it and then proceeds to start banging her head against it. Well, at least the boppy than the floor.

You can also see a war wound she got a couple days ago. We were both minding our own business when I heard a thunk. Whenever I hear that I cringe and wait for the outcome. Usually it's no more than a grunt, maybe a little moan, and then she's back to whatever it was she was doing. Not this time...there was a wail, so I went to get her, I set her down in front of the computer and she was just fine mashing keys. She got a really good goose egg on her head and a nice bruise.
