Baby Shower

On Friday I had my baby shower. A couple of my friends from the ward planned it and we had such a good time. Too bad the weather was so miserable, or more people could have been there. Can I just say, even though I love snow, that I'm getting sick of it and would love to see the grass and the sun again.

We had fun chatting, eating, playing games and opening presents. I am so grateful for all the friends that I have here in good old West Virginia.

For all the lovely ladies who came to celebrate with me, and to all those who wish they could have been there, thank you so much for the great time! I appreciate your friendship, and I'm sure Ruby will love to meet you!

Ruby Update

Another prenatal exam and no news to report. Ruby's healthy and all is well, and well, that's it!

37 Weeks

Well, Ruby's now 37 weeks and is full term! Whoa, how fast did that happen?! I am definitely ready for our little girl to come out. She's pushing and shoving and has outgrown her current home. Bobby asked me when I wanted her to be born, and I said, "As soon as possible", then I thought for a minute and said, "Well, anytime after Friday". My shower is on Friday and I definitely want to enjoy those festivities.

Bobby's excited too. The other day he was talking to Ruby and told her he was so excited for her to come out and play with him. I just have to smile when he says stuff like that. Sure, it'll be a while before she can really "play" but I know that he's going to take full advantage of daddyhood when she's born. He's excited to come home from a long day at school and spend time with his girls.

So now we just play the waiting game.

Ruby Update

Another prenatal. Ruby's good, her heartbeat was strong. I actually had a contraction while the midwife was listening, so it was interesting hearing her little heart race for a few seconds and then calm down again. I've been having more and more Braxton Hicks contractions the last few weeks, and ever since the last Lost episode where pregnant Claire goes into labor and yells, "It's happening!", Bobby asks me if "it's happening" every time I have a contraction. I've had to dispel a lot of notions he's had about labor from watching TV and movies. These shows are giving our men lots of wacky ideas!

The Nursery

The nursery has been a work in progress for many months now. It all started back in the summer when we first found out we were pregnant. I started researching and thinking up plans right away. Bobby thinks it's funny that when I get my mind wrapped around something, I'm gung-ho (aka obsessed) about it and won't stop until it's done. In this case it's babies. I've been on the internet everyday looking at new things, learning about my body and this growing little girl, and researching every baby product imaginable.

We knew for our nursery we wanted to do something gender neutral, so that the bedding and accessories could be used again, so I decided to do something with bright colors. I ordered fabric to make a bed skirt and bumper (don't worry, that suckers not going on there until Ruby's older, no SIDS risk here!), picked paint, shopped for a shelf, and made art for the wall. Bobby was such a big help in getting it all together and I can't wait for Ruby to meet her daddy.

Here's what this room was before:

Our house is so small that the nursery can't be totally devoted to our little Ruby, so the piano and armoire have to stay, but luckily the room's big enough that it doesn't matter all that much. It will be nice though, when we move into a little bit bigger house and Ruby will have a room all to herself and I'll have room all to myself for sewing, projects and painting.

Here's the after:

I love the room! The colors are fun and I think it'll be a great place for our girl to live her first year or so (can you believe we'll only be here for another year and a couple months?! Crazy!). It's still a little bit of a work in progress. I'd like to find a new shade for the lamp and the chair isn't the coziest thing in the world. I'm going to try it out for a few weeks and see if it works, but it could get the boot.

So, what do you think?

Happy Valentine's Day

To all those that I love, Happy Valentine's Day! You make my life sweeter and happier and better every time I see you! And to the love of my life, Bobby....you give me more joy than I ever thought possible. Thanks for being my Valentine and Ruby's Valentine too.

Ruby Update

Another prenatal exam, they're going to be every week from here on out, so we're down to the wire! Ruby's doing good, her heartbeat is strong and everything's measuring as it should be. Bobby was able to make it to this appointment and he loved hearing his little girl's heart. I told him it's my favorite part of every appointment.

35 Weeks

It's hard to believe that today Ruby is 35 weeks and in just 14 short days would be considered full term if she decided to make her appearance. The time has flown by and I can't believe our little girl is going to be with us soon. It has been a fun journey from the day I greeted Bobby at the door with a positive pregnancy test and a slightly manic expression and told him we were pregnant. There was definitely apprehension mixed with the excitement.

But our little girl soon dispelled any anxiety we had, and at our first prenatal appointment and ultrasound, we both were awed at the little being growing in my belly. Seeing her move and hearing her heartbeat made the whole thing real and we embraced the idea of our Ruby Grace whole-heartedly.

Bobby has been wonderful, especially the last few weeks as fatigue has set in and I have little motivation to do stuff around the house. The way he comes home and kisses the belly and schmoopy talks to his girl is so tender, and I can't wait to see him as a father. I can't wait for Ruby to come out too...her pushing and shoving is getting a little uncomfortable and I'm getting to the point where I want to love her outside instead of inside.

Phoenix

I had such a blast in Phoenix visiting my sister Annie and her family. Annie and I are both pregnant and due 2 days apart, so it was fun seeing her and being pregnant together. Lilly, Annie's little girl, was super cute and had to kiss my belly and talk to baby Ruby. The weather was gorgeous and we played and had fun. Here's a rundown of what we did.

Read lots of stories.

Lilly loves books and reading and will want to read the same book over and over and over again.

Ate yummy donuts.

Went to storytime.

Lilly was funny at storytime, while all the other kids just sat down and did the motions to songs and listened to the stories, Lilly was out of her seat, dancing around and jumping. She loves Miss Ellen and the bubbles, books and music.

Played in the park.

Ate Sushi.

Jonathan was our master sushi chef for the evening and we had a great time putting together different combos and gorging ourselves. And no, the pregnant ladies didn't indulge in anything raw.

Compared bellies.

Jonathan was being sneaky and took this picture while Annie and I were watching TV. We had the exact same expression, pose and he thought it was hilarious.

Annie, Jonathan and Lilly, thank you so much for such a great time! I love you so much and can't wait to see you again! If only I didn't come home to this:

Pathetic!

I am totally pathetic! Just a couple of days by myself and I am both whiney as could be and bored out of my mind. I always knew how much I loved her and how much of my life she was a part of but it just seems to come to the surface when she is gone. I really miss her. I can honestly say she is my best friend, confidant, love-of-my-life, and overall sweetest little thing ever!!! Plus, she gets all this solo-belly-rubbing time all by herself---that's my job too!! Ok, enough complaining....I have to say one positive thing before the end of this post......I got my new running shoes.
