Chatterbox

Ruby's been talking for awhile now. She coos and gurgles at us when we talk or sing to her, but she saves her loudest squeals for when she's hanging out on the floor and I'm doing something else. I'll be in the kitchen or another room and I'll hear her and she totally cracks me up. I've tried to catch it on video, but as soon as she sees the camera she usually becomes too enthralled with it to practice her vocals. Until today! I proudly present....Ruby the Chatterbox:

So strong!

As I've mentioned before, Ruby loves her floor gym...the mirror, the hanging animals, the sounds it makes...She'll lay there contentedly for a long time squealing and cooing to herself, happily looking at all the fun colors and just enjoying life.

Over the last couple weeks she's really become aware of her hands and has started grabbing the animals and yanking on them. Yesterday I heard her give a great big grunt and then a sigh and I wondered what she was up to. This is what I found:

She had grabbed her parrot and given it a powerful tug and down it came! She was perfectly satisfied to have her parrot in one hand and her monkey in the other.

First Fathers Day

Bobby celebrated his first Fathers Day and he loved it. Spending time with his girls, eating good food and loving being a Daddy...what more could you want?

Pretty Girl

Ruby's enjoyed watching herself in the little mirror of her floor gym for a while now. But today I was sitting on the couch and I heard a few little squeals and I looked down to see her talking to herself and totally grinning. She may not realize yet who that girl in the mirror is, but she knows that she's pretty darn cute and lots of fun!

Tummy Time Strike

Ruby's pretty good with tummy time. She'll go a good 5-10 minutes before she starts to fuss. But lately she's learned something very important: she doesn't have to work at all...all she needs to do is lay her little head down and take it easy. Now, when I put her on her tummy, she'll keep her head up for a few minutes and then just call it quits, and that usually involves sucking her thumb.

3 Month Birthday

Today is Ruby's 3 month birthday and we've spent it with Grandma and Grandpa, which has been so much fun! When I informed Grandpa that today was indeed his little Ruby's birthday, he promptly informed me that "Ruby would like cupcakes for her birthday." Hmmmm....not suspicious at all, is it?

Anyway, I appeased the masses (namely two men who can't resist a treat and go by the names of Grandpa and Daddy), made some cupcakes and we all had fun playing with our little munchkin and celebrating her 3 month anniversary of being a part of our family. There was lots of snuggling, playing and loving all around.

Ruby, we love you!

What sleep feels like...

Ruby's been with us for exactly 12 weeks today. I can't believe it's been that long. She's getting so big and so cute and chubby. She smiles like she can't stop...that little girl has a perpetual smile on her face and it's so easy to get one when there's the rare instance when she isn't smiling. She's a talker, too. Nonstop from when she wakes up to when she sleeps again. Always cooing and squealing, it's so much fun to interact with her and watch her play by herself and talk to herself.

The biggest development though is that she has slept through the night the last two nights. On Wednesday night she woke up once at 2:30 and talked to herself and fell back asleep at 3:00 and then woke up at 6:30. Then last night she slept straight through and woke up at 7:00. It was glorious! Now, I didn't get a full night's sleep, what with listening to her talk the first night and then waking around 5:00 very uncomfortable because she hadn't eaten in so long. Let's just say it's not a pleasant feeling when you're breastfeeding and the cute little milk-drinker in your life hasn't relieved you for 8-9 hours. But it was great being able to just lay in bed and be blissfully lazy. I'm hoping for another great night tonight!
