Ruby said...

While looking out the window to see if any neighbor kids are playing:

Ruby: Why aren't my friends playing outside?

Me: Because they're on vacation.

Ruby: What's vacation?

Me: Vacation is when you go someplace fun.

Ruby: Like to the moon or something?

Jack's Day

We had such a fun time celebrating with our boy. Ruby had a blast, too, showing Jack his balloons, wearing party hats all day long and singing "Happy Birthday to You" over and over and over again.

I had a quiet time at home with the kiddos and it took nearly all of Ruby's self control not to open Jack's presents herself. Finally Bobby got home from work and then we could party!

We had spaghetti and meatballs for dinner with chocolate ice cream cake for dessert.

And Jack had fun opening presents. I do have to remind Ruby every day that it's Jack's pirate shop and not hers.

Happy Birthday Jack!

Today you are one year old! One! Can you believe it? This year has flown by and brought with it it's share of struggles and delights. You were a tough nut to crack in the beginning. Trying to teach you independent sleep and getting your eating troubles figured out took quite a toll on us. But boy, are you such a fun little man to have around!

Your sweet smiles and giggles, squeals and coos, everything about your personality is so fun. You are a whiner, no doubt about that, but a snuggle is all it takes to get you to be happy once more.

The most fun I have as your mom is seeing you and your big sister play together. You love each other so much and love to chase each other around the house. When she cries you always crawl over to see what's the matter. And when you cry she always says, "Shhh, Jack, it's okay, I'm here."

You absolutely love to eat and will plow through anything we put in front of you. And nothing gets a smile out of you like ice cream.

Jack, you make our home a better place to be. I am so grateful our Heavenly Father entrusted us with you. I can't wait to see you grow and how you change. I love you with all my heart.
