The Newest Fashions
Straight from the runways of Paris, Milan and New York, Ruby sports the latest in haute couture accessories....presenting....baby toys as jewelry!
See how the BPA-free green plastic makes Ruby's lovely arm look even chubbier and more luscious to chew on? You can't get that with any other look! And these new accessories are so versatile...they can be worn for a fresh day time look. Or, strike a more serious pose for something that says, "It's 7 in the evening and it's time for me to go to bed."
Either way, you will be the cutest talk of the town!

Fourth Year Boards
Bobby has been studying hard this summer to take his fourth year boards...and when I mean studying, I mean studying. Eight or ten hour days of nothing but looking at books, notes and computer screens. Yuck!
He takes his boards on Thursday and Friday, so keep him in your prayers!

Rolling
For about two weeks now, Ruby's been on the verge of rolling from her back to her tummy. She just can't seem to get up the gumption to actually do it. She hasn't once seemed to try rolling from her tummy to her back, which is the way most babies usually go. Until today! She was doing tummy time on the floor and I was laying on the couch doing blog stuff and noticed she had been quiet for awhile. I looked down and there she was smiling at me, happily situated on her back. I immediately called Bobby up from the basement and we gave her kisses and told her how proud we were of her and she probably thought we were crazy.
During her next session of tummy time I was hoping to get a repeat performance, and what do you know? I did! I proudly present: Our Amazing Rolling Ruby!

Morning Walks
Most mornings I like to take a stroll with Ruby after she gets up and eat. So usually around 7:30 we're out the door enjoying a brisk couple mile walk around the neighborhood. It's a lot of fun...I jabber the whole time about mundane details: "Look Ruby, that's a chain-link fence, fences keep people from going where they're not supposed to. We saw that fence yesterday, do you remember? It's gray and tall and we can't go past it because we're not allowed." I would love to know what she's thinking when I'm yammering on about ridiculous stuff like that. Or instead of talking, I'll sing to her. Good times.
This summer has been pretty hot and West Virginia is really humid and I really don't like it when I get hot and sticky...hence the early morning walks. It usually isn't too bad so early and by the time we get back to the house the sun has cleared the trees and the heat is setting in. I've been pretty faithful about our little jaunts and we usually go out 3 or 4 times a week.
Then yesterday happens. I walked outside to set up the stroller...well, walking might be the wrong word to use...maybe swim is a better one. I swam outside. It was so hot and humid it was probably 80 degrees. Bobby walked out to talk to me, made a disgusted face and walked right back in the house. Ruby and I proceeded to walk to the end of the street, turn around and walk right back home.
Because, let's face it, I'm a baby and I prefer to swim in pools.

Four Month Exam
Ruby went to the doctor and aside from some pesky shots she's doing great! Here's the rundown:
Weight: 12 lbs 12 oz... 40th percentile
Length: 25 in...75 percentile
She's still our long skinny girl and is oh-so-cute!

Highchair
Bobby and I were both in the kitchen preparing dinner and Ruby was in the living room. She's never really hung out with us in the kitchen since her last nap is usually during dinner time. So I set up the highchair, not knowing if she'd really be able to sit in it or even like it. To our surprise, she totally enjoyed hanging out with us...she put her feet up and relaxed. (She probably liked the fact that the tv was on, too).

What we usually find...
Ruby's become a major thumb sucker (you may have already realized this, reading the blog). Almost every time we go to get her out of bed she's sucking her thumb. This photo is no surprise...however, those little curious hands of hers have started exploring things on top of her head as well. Case in point: her clippies. I've caught her a few times now with a death grip around them. I think I'll have to retire them for a little while so that she doesn't rip one out and try to eat it. Anyway, we found her like this...thumb in mouth...clippy hanging on for dear life.

Dear Ruby,
Today you are 4 months old and I can't believe you've only been with us for that short of a time. I can't imagine life without you in our family. Ever since you were growing in my belly I would wonder what it would be like for you to be with us and what you would look like...every day I am amazed by how you're growing and how big you're getting. I love everything about you and everything you do. Here are a few of my favorites:
*Your smiles when I come in to get you from sleeping warm my heart and I would give just about anything to have you smiling all day long.
*You've started making funny faces and blowing raspberries and it makes me laugh to myself every time you do.
*That thumb! You can't get enough of that thing!
*How happy you are when I sing to you before I put you to bed. I lay you down in your crib and you get the biggest grin in anticipation of our songs together.
*Your talking...I love hearing it. If I could program it into my ipod I would.
*How you always have to be holding something. If you're just hanging out on the floor your little hand searches until it finds something it can grab: a toy, the blanket, your shirt, your ear, your hair.
Ruby, I am so happy to be your mother. It's the hardest job I've ever done, but it's the most fulfilling, and between your Daddy and you I think my heart just might burst with all the love that I feel. Ruby, you're my special girl and I'll love you always. Just remember that when you get your shots in a few days...
Love,
Mommy

Hands
Ruby loves her hands. She loves to suck on them (particularly her thumbs)and grab things with them (Mommy's hair is a new favorite). The funniest is when she holds them up in the air watching them...thinking...thinking...and then jams them in her mouth. And sometimes she just sits still and holds her hands together. She'll play with her fingers and rub her hands together and is oh-so-cute!
